Nature Reserve

Vercors High Plateaux Nature Reserve.

The Vercors High Plateaux Nature Reserve (national reserve since 1985) is located in the heart of the Vercors Park. It is the largest nature reserve in mainland France, covering 17 000 hectares of two départements (Isère and Drôme).

The reserve is a zone dedicated to the preservation and study of biodiversity. The whole area can only be accessed on foot to the delight of those who love wilderness and wide-open spaces of forest, pasture land, limestone cliffs and slabs.

During the summer, the Plateaux is host to a strong pastoral activity, when sheep and shepherds make the most of the fresh air of these high altitudes.

It is a paradise for wildlife such as bouquetin (ibex), black grouse, chamois, golden eagle...

There are also 747 species of plants to be discovered in the reserve.
